Nokia C6: Yet Another Review

Design
To begin with, C6 comes with all the essentials. It consists of a charger, a data cable, a one-piece headset and a 2 GB microSD card (C6 supports cards up to 16 GB).The C6 is sized 113 x 53 x 16.8 mm and weighs 150 g. Seems to be a heavy phone. It is a 3.2” touchscreen and a side sliding QWERTY phone. The touchscreen is resistive of nHD resolution. The resistive display is good enough but when compared to the capacitive displays it fails. Using C6 under sunlight requires shielding of the display. The receiver and menu keys are placed below this screen. Above the screen lies a group of sensors around the earpiece and a QVGA video-call camera. Now coming to the sides of the phone, there’s the volume rocker, the lock/hold key and the shutter key on the right and a protected microSD card slot on the left. On the top of the phone are a micro USB port and a 3.5 mm audio jack and at the bottom are a 2 mm charger plug and the lanyard outlet. At the back of C6 there is a 5 MP camera a LED flash, and a single loudspeaker. The battery is BL-4J rated at 1200mAh and can standby for 384 hours with a talktime of 7 to 5 hours. Under this battery is the SIM card slot. The panel has a bad fit though. The build and design of the phone is satisfactory. The QWERTY keyboard is comfortable to use and has ample backlighting.
User Interface
Nokia is known for being user friendly and so do they keep up with C6 too. C6 is entitled to run with S60 5th edition. Scrolling is absolutely a clean sweep with no lags. Widgets are on board in C6’s homescreen. The main menu of the C6 is similar to the N97 mini. Apart from that you can also have access to the connectivity which initiates the WLAN search. Now coming to the Widgets, the space on the screen occupies about 5 widgets. There a number of widgets that you can choose from. There are widgets like the WLAN wizard, calendar, music player controls, email, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Bloomberg, CNN videos and few more. There’s one widget for favorite contacts and a shortcut widget too. There is also an OVI store. The phonebook has unlimited capacity of storage. It is customizable giving you full control over the options. The call log as known maintains a record of the calls received, dialed and missed. It not only stores calls but also stores messages and data transfer for a period of 30days. The sound quality is efficient and the signal connection has no trouble. Smart dialing is implemented at its best and is a quick access. C6 also has voice dialing and can be used by a press and hold operation on the call key. The messaging on C6 is QWERTY enabled. It supports SMS, MMS and email of all types. The phone has two other ways of inputs apart from the QWERTY keyboard: the on-screen numpad and handwriting recognition. There is only one game on this phone and that is Bejeweled Twist.
Audio and Video
The music player of the C6 is similar to that of the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. The music player is convenient with easy uploading of songs. It supports almost all the audio formats saving you from disappointment. The music library is well sorted and organized and also lets you customize it. The audio quality is clear but is not the loudest. It has low noise and distortion and a great stereo crosstalk. It also has a FM radio with RDS and has a trouble free reception. Considering the image and video quality, the camera is 5 megapixels with a flash producing good quality images. Images have natural colors and well balanced with contrast. The camera has a bunch of options from white balance to ISO along with several effects. It also allows for Geo-tagging and features face detection, smile detection and even blink prevention. The video quality is just about OK. Video recording can be performed by the screen resolution (640 x 352 px) resolution or VGA, camera at 30 fps.
Connectivity
The C6 is embedded with GPRS, EDGE and the 3G (HSDPA) at 3.6 Mbps. 3G is tri-band and the GSM/EDGE is quad band. Bluetooth version 2.0 supporting A2DP and also USB of the same version is used. It has an internal storage of 240 MB and it also has a 3.5 mm audio jack. The web browser on C6 is on an average usability with comfortable scrolling and the fact that it is user friendly. The browser page gives a good feel at use with some features to change size of fonts and a password manager. There is also a download manager and a RSS reader, a pop- up blocker and a minimap. There is one flash support which is better than the previous versions.
Organizer
The organizer has a calendar with different formats and also Microsoft Office application but it doesn’t let you edit your documents and hence to enable editing then you’ll have to visit the Ovi store with some charges. Organizer also includes calculator, converter, voice recorder and notes application. There is also alarm application which lets you set as many alarms as you want.
GPS and Ovi Store
The C6 has an inbuilt GPS which got onto the satellite lock in a minute with the A-GPS off. It also has Ovi Maps 3.3 Touch installed in it and Nokia offers a free voice guided navigation on all its GPS handsets for a lifetime. Now that sounds great!
Ovi store is the place for applications, games, videos and audio files and many more. Along with these the Nokia C6 has other applications preinstalled. World Traveler offering weather, currencies, world clock, and a world map; Nokia drawing, Bloomberg app for financial information and an AP (Associated Press) Mobile application are few others that are preinstalled. Coming to the social networking sites, there are twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Friendster and hi5.
Conclusion
The Nokia C6 has to face challenges from lots of other range of mobiles. Nothing innovative is lined up over the phone. Yet it might sell for the style and the brand name it has.
